iP-TEC® - Solutions for Live Cell Transport
View product-specific information in our online store here.
iP-TEC® labware is an innovative solution for transporting live cells without freezing them. Currently, freezing cells for transportation enables them to be transported in a stabilized condition; however, the thawing process can is stressful to cultured cells. The freeze-and-thaw process is time, labor, and material-intensive and runs the risk of cells being damaged or destroyed. iP-TEC solves these problems by removing the need to freeze the cells.
Live Cell Transportation
Challenges in Cell Transportation
Various challenges can occur in transporting live cells. Parameters such as temperature, pH, growth media, co-factors (or the lack of them), CO₂, mycoplasma/bacterial contamination can change cells.
If any of these vary then this can and will lead to variability or may even cause the cells to change biochemically/pharmacologically. Therefore, it has to be precisely controlled.

iP-TEC Solutions
iP-TEC labware enables you to transport live cells without the challenges present in popular cell transportation. Various plate and flask container shapes are available with vented or closed lids as necessary, reducing the cost, time, labor, and medium needs. Products for temperature and CO₂ control are also available.
Building an iP-TEC System
A complete iP-TEC system for live cell transportation includes a primary, secondary, and tertiary container with supplementary parts. Each component can be purchased as needed for your cell transportation needs. Custom components are also available. Please contact us for more information regarding customizable containers.
Primary components including caps, flasks, and plate wells are available to secure transport live cells. Each is designed to fit securely within a secondary transport container. Vented systems for O2/CO2 permeability and closed systems are available for cells, sheets, or 3D tissues. View Products
Permeable silicone covers are available for various sizes of culture dishes and microwell plates to transport cells in their original plate.
iP-TEC flasks are designed to reduce the necessary amount of medium for cell transportation.
Vented and sealed secondary containers are designed to keep the corresponding primary components flat and stationary during transport. CO2 pouches are available to regulate gas transfer within the vented container. The sealed container set includes the outer container, plastic flask holders, and flask cushions. View Products
6-well, 12-well, 24-well, and 96-well covers and containers are available for transporting standard sized plates. Custom sizes are also available.
Weighted plates and mesh cushions are available for use with both the vented and sealed containers. Barrier pouches for the secondary containers can be used for air shipments.
Insulated containers for transporting live cells are available in a variety of sizes depending on your transportation and storage requirements. Different designs suitable for travel within a lab network or long-distance can be paired with temperature monitors and stabilizers that keep cells within an ideal temperature range of 33-36°C for up to 150 hours. View Products

Existing Challenges iP-TEC® Solutions
Temperature: The optimal temperature of cell culture is largely dependent on the body temperature of the host. Temperature Stabilizer and insulated transportation box can maintain the temperature at 33-36 C for > 150 hours.
pH: Cells have specific optimal environment. Each growth medium’s buffering system depends on CO2 minute and bicarbonate concentrations to achieve proper pH and osmotic pressure. iPS system can maintain 5% of CO2 with Culture PAL®CO2 pack and primary containers which can permeate CO2 gas.
Contamination: Dust and moisture can make contact on the neck of the flask. No leak silicone rubber container cover.
Cost of medium/Medium movement: Air in the container can cause sloshing, shear force to the cells. To avoid it, it is necessary to fill the container in full. No bubble with iP-TEC® Flask-25 and use of Silicone rubber covers. Their design can reduce the volume of medium.
Primary components
are designed to reduce the amount of medium and allow ventilation as necessary.
Secondary containers
securely fasten and protect various sizes of primary components. Sealed and vented options are available.
Tertiary components
maintain an ideal temperature range to prevent degradation of the cells during transport.
